GoodEats Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2, 2026
GoodEats is a personal place tracker. Your data belongs to you, and the app is built so that we never see it.
What the app stores
Places you save, your ratings, notes, tags, dishes, visits, and menu suggestions you scan. All of it is stored on your device and, if you’re signed into iCloud, in your private iCloud database, which only you can access. None of it ever touches a server of ours, and we cannot read any of it.
What the app does NOT do
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- None of your data is sent to us or to any third party, with two narrow exceptions you control, described below: the optional feedback form, and expanding Google Maps short links that you share into the app.
Feedback: the one thing you can choose to send us
The app has a single feature that talks to a server we run: the optional “Send feedback” form in Settings. If you use it, it sends exactly three things: the message you typed, an email address only if you chose to enter one, and your app version and device model (so we can reproduce what you report). Nothing is sent until you tap Send, nothing else is ever included, and it is used only to read and answer feedback. If you include an email, it is used only to reply to you. If you never use the form, the app sends us nothing at all.
Location
If you allow location access, it is used only to suggest nearby places while searching and to show your position on the map. Your location is never stored or transmitted by the app.
Camera and photos
Menu photos you scan are processed entirely on your device using Apple’s built-in text recognition. Photos are not stored by the app and never leave your device.
Sharing a Google Maps link into the app
If you share a Google Maps short link (goo.gl / maps.app.goo.gl) into GoodEats, the app asks Google to expand it so it can read the place, the same request your browser would make if you opened the link. Google sees the link and your IP address in that moment; GoodEats sends Google nothing else, and nothing from your library. If you share full-length links or use Apple Maps, no request to Google is made.
Ask pages and shared lists (web)
If someone shares a GoodEats list with you, or you use the public “ask friends for recs” page at share.mygoodeats.app, the text on those pages (place names, notes, an optional first name) is stored on our server so the page can exist. That content is only what was typed into the page on purpose, it is never joined to any app user’s library, and ask pages close after 30 days. Report abuse on any shared page to [email protected].
Apple services
Place search uses Apple Maps (MapKit), and sync uses Apple iCloud (CloudKit). Your use of those services is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Your data, your control
You can export all of your data as JSON from Settings at any time, and delete everything by deleting the app (and its iCloud data via iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage).
